ONE ONLY : I found a wonderful shop in the souks of Marrakech selling every kind of hand-knotted, tasseled creation imaginable made by the traditional tassel-maker artisan. This necklace is combined with the wonderful knotted djellaba button. Djellabas are the traditional caftan worn in Morocco that have a row of handmade buttons down the front. The craft of button making is ancient...said to be over 2000 years old and probably brought to Morocco by Jews. There are over 50 button designs - all using intricate knot patterns done with a needle over a tiny piece of plastic tubing. This very long necklace is a circle of buttons with a length of 100cm or 1 metre when worn around the neck...that is 2 metres if opened up in length. Gorgeous tiny buttons in every rainbow colour and threaded with hand plyed lime green thread. Can be worn doubled or tripled around the neck. Very light - just 20 grams. Unique and utterly beautiful.
