This is a new handwoven woollen kelim/flatweave made in Herat, Afghanistan. It is beautiful muted colours and the design is similar to a patchwork quilt using triangles/diamonds. The colours are traditional vegetable dyes in soft yellows, greens, light blue and many subtle warm browns and soft strawberry red. I was told two of the dyes come from onions and apricots. 70cm x 202cm including narrow grey fringe at each short end.
I bought 4 different designs from my contact and friend Ali in Pakistan. His brother-in-law is a rug dealer and bought these from Herat. Their beautiful simple geometric designs would suit either a traditional or contemporary home. The size of this rug means it will fit virtually anywhere in the home.
