Bright handmade seed bead bangles made by Yasmeen Soomro in Pakistan

$5.00

DADU, Sindh province, Pakistan

There are 8 different colour combinations in these narrow beaded bangles. The inner diameter of each bangle is 6.5cm and the bangle itself is 1.5cm wide - narrow enough to stack many together for lots of colour. The beads are tiny seed beads...so probably hundreds or even thousands have been strung together and then twisted around the bangle base.

The woman who made these bangles is Yasmeen Soomro from the Muslim city of Dadu in central Sindh province in Pakistan. She is a master trainer of crafts and has taught between 100-150 women how to make these bangles to help them earn money for their families. Sombre is a very old Singhi tribal name and in Pakistan the tribal name becomes a surname.

Beading is an ancient craft of the Indus Valley - originally crafted from worked stone.

More than 73% of housing in the Dadu district is single room houses with an average of 5.5 people living in each dwelling.
