FULLY HAND-STITCHED PATCHWORK RALI QUILT/THROW MADE BY MEGHWAR WOMEN OF SINDH, PAKISTAN

FULLY HAND-STITCHED PATCHWORK RALI QUILT/THROW MADE BY MEGHWAR WOMEN OF SINDH, PAKISTAN

$350.00

Like a contemporary painting. Crisp, fresh, bright deep purpley/black cotton 100% hand stitched patchwork ralli (quilt/throw) purchased purchased from the Sindhi Thar Desert Meghwar tribal people in Pakistan. Meghwar women are renown for their exquisite needlework, embroidery, patchwork and reverse appliqué. They live in Purdah (isolation) and do not travel even to the nearest village. Their rallies are a loud and proud statement which tells the world of their existence, history and incredible skill.   230cm x 150cm

This design is like a geometric kalidescope - with diamonds, triangles, crosses and squares in strong contrasting black/purple and white cotton. The black looks black in most lights but when viewed very closely with bright light - is actually the darkest possible purple.  A strong border of black diamonds, edged in a black and white zig-zag border with each point embroidered with the Meghwar  KUNGRI symbol of a tiny triangle. Around the whole edge is a black and white triangular edge which is stunning. The whole ralli is quilted in running stitch in black and each corner has a purple tassel. It is backed with solid black cotton.   A stunning quilt that would suit a contemporary interior. No wadding. Unstained and no holes.
