Journal with hand-dyed, hand-stitched cover using a myriad of ancient crafts

$30.00

LAST ONE: The cover of this journal is of woven medium-weight silk and I have hand-dyed it with Shiraz grape pressings collected after I helped pick a friends grape harvest and pressed it a few years back. The yellow strip of cotton is from a piece I bought in the Sahara desert, Morocco from a market in Rissani - on the ancient trade route from sub Sahara. I have printed it with Norfolk Island pine fronds from our garden on Kangaroo Island and it has been hand-stitched. It is fastened with a handmade/knotted djellaba button (djellabas are the traditional caftan worn in Morocco). The craft of making these buttons is at least 2000 years old and is thought to have Ben brought to North Africa by Jews. This button was made by a woman in Sefrou, in the Middle Atlas Mountains, 1/2 an hour from Fes. The plyed/twisted thread was done by hand by a thread plyer in Fes. This is a very unique journal cover, made using ancient crafts and processes from all over the world. Imbued with nature and ancient traditions. The journal itself has unlined pages, is spirally bound and is 16cmx22cm in dimension.
